• I A leading article, and several , letters are crowded out this issue. I On Saturday next the return i cricket match Cambridge C. C. v. Ohaupo i C. C, is to be played at Ohaupo. The annual examination of schoolteachers will commence on Saturday, lue Waikato teachers will be examined at the Hamilton East School. A shipment of twelve tons of flax from Messrs Langley, Bros', Kawliia Mill, was la'ely sold in Auckland, at h'io per ton. In addition to the mill in course of erection, on Mrs Swan's property, it h rumouied this firm oontemplate erecting another mill at Makaraka. There was very little business at the K.M. Court at Hamilton yesterday. To IC.te IUU..M, who was chafed by Constable Murray with stealing 2s (id from the. till at the Waikato Hotel, was found "uilty, and fined four times the amount. Mr Hay, who defended the prisoner, guaranteed payment of'tho amount. We have been requested to draw intention to the cricketers' concert to be held in the school-rooin, Pateransi, on Tuesday evening next, particulars of which appears in our issue of to-day. iickets have been distributed to the captain and secretary of each of the cricket clubs in Waikato. and as players of the game are requested to appear iu cricket uniform we shall expect to see a large number of , cricketers present, and a very sociable reunion will no doubt result. We are pleased to learn that Mr l Benjamin P. Bayly, late Sheen Inspector i for the province of Auckland, has decided to settle in Waikato, and is about to join ' Mr J. McNicol, in his Auctioneering and ' Commission business. No doubt Mr Bayly's experience with stock, and his extensive . connection will be of material help to the new firm. We feel quite sure Mr Bayly ' will have no reason to regret the step he is taking. Tide generally is on the How, and no better time therefore could bo chosen for
taking a new departure. Iu connection with the visit of the Mossrs Wilson Bros, to Tβ Aroha, the_ Te Aroha NeW3 says as to renewing operations at Waiorongomai:—They have under consideration a very important project for carrying on work in connection with their property a.5 Waiorongmnai on a large scale, which if carried out will necessitate the expenditure of a very large sum of money, and be the most important work ever entered upun on this goldfield. The air compressor and n.ck drill, recently despatched from Waiorongomai as far jia Thames, will now probably be scut kick to Waiorongomai.
The south side of Dukostreet, Cambridge, will soon appear more like it did before.the fire. Mr Edward Hewitt is about to erect a horsa baz.iar on the, site formerly occupied by a similar buitdinp. We understand that Mr McNicnl intends hiding his sales in the « ew bu" din K> and intends opening witd a mon.-iter sale, in about live weeks. There will be stockyards attached, and every convenience will be made, to suit both the auctioneers and tho public, The contract has been let, and thd building will be proceeded with forth\y^M Sydney just now is sufferin^mro a nliißue of a very which, if it should increase, will be'^iJjfce , .* Rerioua as any of thosn with which' the Egyptians of old wore troubled.
