BANK OF ENGLAND RESERVE. (HY K'LIXTI'JC THI.BGKAHI.—COPYRIGHT.) London-, December L' 9. Tin; total amount of reserve in the Buik of England is ,£8,870,000. The proportion of the reserve to the liabilities is 33] per cent. Money is hardening owing to the smallness of the Bank reserve. The stock of coin and bullion in the Bank's coffers is lower than it has been since 1868. The rate of discount will be increased to six per cent, in January unless the foreign demand is checked. Meanwhile three months bills are at 4 per cent. New Zealand stocks are unchanged.
