OHAUPO.
Much .sympathy is felt here for Messrs Kusabs and Sims in their calamity, the mill and machinery being a total loss. They had only just got the mill into thorough working order, had plenty of orders on hand, some being contract work which they will have to procure. They estimate their loss, building, machinery, tools etc. at £300. The heat of the burning building having got up steam some of the falling timbers struck and started the engine, it being free of control went away at a fearful rate, threatening every moment to demolish itself and everything arronnd, when young Charley Kusabs, soaking his eluthes in water and enveloping himself in a wet sack dashed through the burning timber, shut off steam and saved the engine. How the fire originated is a mystery, the place having just been thoroughly cleaned of all dust and shavings, and inspected as late as 10 p.m. by the engineer. A start has already been made to clear the site, and they are determined to push ahead and get a new mill erected in six weeks, it is besides a loss to the district. The men employed kindly show their sympathy by offering their services for two or three weeks gratis. _____
