The Waikato Times Office, Friday. AUCKLAND LIVE STOCK MARKETS. Messrs A. Buckland and Sons' Weekly Report.—-At the Haymarket during the past week but little loose hay has been brought forward, and prices hare ruled low. Oaten chalf, AM the ton ; oats, 2s 5d : maize, 2s !)d the liushol, were the prices obtained for wholesale parcels. At the horse sale on Friday, an unusually large number offered, fcnt met with a dull sale, and many remained unsold. Prices for useful stock ranped from £0 to £15. On Tuesday, hides and skins were pitched in increased numbers. Prices for ox hides ranged from 3d to Jtj'd ; cow hides, 2d to 2jjd ; calfskins, 4d the lb ; tallow, 18s the cwt; butchers' sheepskins, 4s Od to 0s 2d ; lambskins, Is 7d to 2s each. At the wool sale held on Wednesday there was good competition throughout, and every lot was sold. Prices were higher than at first sale, for halfbred and lougwools folly id the lb. At the monthly cattle sale, held at Waiuku, a moderate muster, mostly young stock, was yarded. Theie was a steady demand at late values. At Remuera on Thursday, dairy cattle were in better enquiry ; fair cows at calving ranged from £3 10s to £4 7s (id. No store cattle yarded. Fat cattle in less than usual number wore steady at last week's values, from 13s to 15a the 1001b. Some averages were : —IS oxen, £0 lUs ; GO steers, £5 lGs ; 12 steers, £5 12s ; 22 steers, £5 7s Gd; 25 steers, £4 14s. Sheep were in average number and kept late values. 500 wethers averaged 12s Gd, varying from lis to 14s Gd each ; 300 ewes, 8s to 12s Gd each. Lambs short of requirement, were better worth ; they brought from 8s to lis each. Pigs also in short supply sold well.
Messrs Hunter and Notan's Weekly Report.—Horse feed, grain : There has been but little hay sold. Supplies of grain are ample, but there is very little being purchased ; prices unaltered. Horses : The improvement noted for last week has continued as to supply, but the demand has not been brisk, resulting in no difference in price. There was a good muster for sale by auction at the Durham Yards on Friday, but bidding generally was slow. There was no noteworthy alteration in value. Wool, hides, skins, tallow, bones, otc. : Activity has characterised the demand. The bidding at the Durham Yards mi Tuesday was brisk. We quote—ox hides, from 3d to 4id ; cow hides, l.jd to 2Jd per lb ; calfskins, 3d to 4£d per lb ; sheepskins, 3s to 6s Id each ; lambskins, Is (id to Is lOd each ; pelts, 8d to Is each ; tallow, £18 us per ton ; bones, £4 10s per ton. The second of the series of wool sales was held on Wednesday. Buyers were more numerous than at the first sale. Competition was remarkably keen, and an advance of from id to Ad per lb was given on valuations of all descriptions. Longwool sold at from 7d to B',d ; crossbred, from 7.jd to !Md ; merino, inferior, B£d. Over 200 bales were disposed of. Cattle : The supply has beon large. The demand for fat beasts steady at the previous week's values. Stores were only saleable at low values, and there was a steady demand for dairy cows at previous prices. A good many ■were yarded at Newmarket on Tuesday. Competition for both dairy and store stock was slow at the previous week's values. Snmo averages of fat steers were £7, £(> 12s Od, £-5 19s tid, £5 lis, £3 10s, £5 Is. Cows, £1 os, £3 10s, £3 10s, £3. Sheep : An average number were penned at Newmarket on Tuesday, the demand was good. Wethers, sold at from 9s to 13-i 9d ; ewes, 7s 3d to 10s tid ; lambs, 5s (id to 10s 9d, J'ifa : But few yarded. Sold at from 2d to 3d per lb live, weight.
