GETTING THROUGH A FORTUNE.

Tiik Homo News states that an eccentric man from the colonies has just passed away at Grantbam, and that quiet town is likely to talk about him for many a year. Five years ago he returned from the Antipodes with a large fortune. He put his money it in a bank, and proceeded to run through with an industry worthy of the " Jubilee Plunger." It was his aim to buy costly things to destroy them, and in general to reverse the customs and ordinary actions of wane men. Herewith are indicated some of the freaks in which he indulged A valuable gold watch was smashed up immediately ; the back of •' silver watch was wrenched off so as to bo more convenient for winding up, ho said ; the straw was taken out of a matsress for pig bedding, springs from ost of a new easy chair, shelves out of the house for firewood, valuablo clocks broken up I and thrown away, bread daily burnt on the lire, lejjH of mutton and sides of bacon were buried in the garden, valuable plants wero bought and chopped up." A pig thwarted his purpose one clay by refusing to take possession of a boudoir that had been prepared for it, and the enraged benefactor of the pier smashed in its skull with a bummer. The end of this eccentric character was, as may be supposed, peculiarly dismal. Ho had parted with all his money, and virtually died a pauper.
