SOUND ADVICE TO LADIES.
A WRITEU in Cassel's book of the household thus refers to woman's care of herself The mistress of a household should consider it her duty to take care of herself. Some of the best-intentioned women fail in everything because they fail in this. They are so anxious to do what they can for other members of the household that they offer themselves as a perpetual sacrifice, take "snatch" meals when the husband i 3 at business, and the ehildreu are at school, work until they are utterly exhausted when there is no one to hinder them, and let their owa dress " go" in order that those they love may be comfortably clad. The consequences are that through doing without proper food and working beyond their strength they loose their health, and with it their power of usefulness ; and through negleeting their appearance, they run the risk of losing the afi'oction and reapant of their home folk. There are probably very few men who can maintain their admiration, perhaps their affection, for a woman wiio is constantly unbecomingly dressed. The mistress of a household, therefore, who desires to keep her hold over her husband, should resolutely persevere in makiDg the best of herself. She need never trouble to obtain costly apparel (men rarely appraise the money value of a garment, it is the women who do that) ; but if she is wise she will try to be neat, and to wear what suits her and looks attraotivc. Then, too, with regard to her health. If the health of the mistress fail, the whole household iB disorganised, and every member thereof is made uncomfortable. Bat if the mistress remain cnergetic and vigorous, she will find a cure for most Of the evili which may befall.
