THE DUNEDIN EXHIBITION.

|BY TKLEGIiAI'H.—PJIKSS ASSOCIATION. J Dunk kin', Friday. Negotiations are already on foot with a firm to buy the art gallery at the conclusion of the exhibition. Both this building and the concert hall were erected on the proposed street line with a view to their ultimate disposal and endeavours are being made to form a company to take over the hall, with the organ, for public purposes. Mr Tmvsey hat- his musical arrangements well in hand, and the official programme has already been published, but it may be added that the orchestra or ballad concerts will be given five days in each week while the exhibition is open. The permanent orchestra mustering is to be augmented to 45 on special occasions (seven are from Dunedin, three from Australia, and the rest from various parts). The choir, numbering 380, are all residents of Dmiedin. The organ has been musically enlarged sines it was used at Wellington, and owing to the size of the building, it was also found necessary to construct a wing on each side, to bring it into proportion with the surroundings. The choir has been practising since the middle of April, and the orchestra since Ist. November, the original music which has been composed for the opening day. The principal selection will be Cowans' Hymn of Thanksgiving, which was first heard at the opening of the Melbourne Exhibition. The art gallery is to be lighted by electricity, but even with chis there are signs that the ventilation will be insufficient.

There is some dissappointment at the comparatively small number of passengers by the Mararoa. It was expected that at least double the number would have booked, Besides the collection of pictures mentioned in a previous telegram the wilt be a large number principally portraits in the early history court.
