FEDERATION.
(r,v icr.Kcriuc telegiui'h—copymukt). London, November 15. A latkje public meeting has been hold at the Mansion House, presided over by Sir 11. A. Isaacs, Lord Mayor, iii support of a City of London branch of the Federation League. A resolution was carried in favour of the early summoning of another Colonial Conference. November 17. Lord Koseberry, speaking at the Mansion House yesterday, said the groat sympathy shown by Australia with the Dock Strikers, taken, with Soudan incident, showed that there was a healthy tone in tlie colonies iu tlie direction of the unity of the British Empire. The existence of the federal movement now inaugurated in Australia depended upon the periodical renewal of tlie conference of colonial delegates in London. At such conference Lord Koseberry said, such questions as defence, postal and telegraph systems might properly be considered.
Lord Carnarvon, on the same occasion, expressed the hope that the larger questioi. of the federation of the Empire would be submitted for consideration at the next colonial conference.
The Times, in the course of an artical on federation, says the promoters are forcing the pace, but at present there is little grounds for practical agitation, and it will be necessary to await the result of Australasian federation before it is either prudent or proßtable to move further in the direction of Imperial Federation. Tlie (Standard,,, referring to the proposal for holding, another colonial conference in T,ondon, expresses the opinion that there is nothing at present to demand an assemblage of colonial delegates.
