Wellington, Monday. Tub Education Department have procured specimens of penmanship, drawing, needlework, mapping, etc., from various native schools in the North and South Islands, which will be forwarded to the Dunedin Exhibition by the steamer leaving here this afternoon. The collection is large and some excellent work is shown. Mr Fergus has returned from his West Coast tour, accompanied by Mr O'Connor. Mr Hislop returned from the Hot Lakes on Saturday, and was at an executive meeting with the other Ministers to-day, and in the afternoon left in the Te Anau for the South. He intends to visit Oxuiaru. and will be away about 10 days.
At a meeting of the plumbers, tinsmiths, and gasfitters association, a donation of 2s lid per member was voted in aid of the Kuiapoi •trikers, and a. levy made of Is per week for members while the strike continues. Tt tvas resolved that until the demand of tho strikers are concedod, no member shall purchase Kaiapoi manufactured goods. When the .Jubilee from Sydney arrived in harbour this afternoon she was boarded by Captain Halliday, health officer, find Dr. Henry, medical officer, and they soon satisfied themselves that Mr Gould, amongst the passengers, had not been on board the Varra, which was quarantined at Sydney.
