CAMBRIDGE BOROUGH COUNCIL.
Thk monthly tnoeting of the above body was held on Tuesday at 7 p.m. Present: Councillors Webber, Hally, U. Richardson, Priestly, Young, Bond, and J. S. Richardson. In the absence of His Worship the Mayor, Cr. Hally was voted to the chair. Thk Balance Sheet.—The balance sheet for tho half year ending September 30th., was returned from the audit office, iluly certified to as being correct. Town- Allotments.— Mr A. E. Hill wrote asking upon what terms he could have allotment No, 454. Referred to the Kinauce. Committee, with power to act.
Finance. — Amount of overdraft on October Bth., £50!) 2s lid ; amounts paid during month, £101 17s 3J ; amount lodged during month, t'lii) 17s lid ; accounts to pass for payment, £0 14s 7d; overdraft when accounts are paid, £550 10s lOd. Legal limit of overdraft, £557 9s lOd. The Public Hall.—The Hall Committee reported they had inspected the building and had authorised the following works being done: The spouting around the building to be repaired, the grounds done up, and the two front scenes to be repaired. The whole of the lamps to have new burners and chimneys put upon them. The report was adopted. Wokks.— The works Committee reported that the fence at the bottom of Duke-street leading to the old wharf, had been thoroughly put in order by the surfacemen, who had also turned the water off the Thornton road into an old grave! pit. They recommended tho repairing of the footpath in Hall Street, near Lamb's property. The report was approved of with the exception of the last clause, it being decided to ascertain the cost before undertaking tho work.
The Valuation Roll.—Mr J.l'. Thomson was reappointed valuer for the borough, for the year 1800, at the same remuneration as formerly. Public Hall Cahetakeli.—The clerk was instructed to write to the caretaker of the Public Hall, re the property under his care being bitter looked after. Gravel Coxi'iucr.— The following tenders were received at per yard :—No. 1: Muredith, Is (id; Fogarty, 2s. No. 2: Meredith, Is 5d ; Fogarty, 3s. No. o: Meredith, !)d ; Fogarty, Is.- On the motion of Cr. Hally, seconded by Cr. Young, Meredith's tender was accepted.
Tin: Saleyakiw.—The Clerk was instructed to ascertain from tho Hamilton Borough Council what fees are charged the auctioneers tor the use of the Borough saleyards. The Kaii.-u'lko Brunei:.—The Clerk was instructed to write to the Sinking Fund Commissioners, requesting a definite reply to a letter forwarded on .1 uly 23rd, ra the legality of the Karapiro bridge loan. Fun/.E.—Crs. .1. H. S. Richardson and J. S. Bond were appointed a committee to inspect and report upon the furze growing on the streets.
Accounts.—The following: accounts were passed for payment:—2l. Preece, £o los ; J. Meredith, 17s ;C. 22:ivco, V**; Government I'rintinor Office, ill 1* 3d; Audit Office, £8 !3s 4d. This closed the business.
