WAIPA COUNTY COUNCIL.
Tin: usual monthly meeting of the Waipa County Council was held at the Council
Chambers, Ohaupo, at 11 a.m. on Tuesday. Present: Crs. Lang (piesiding), Kidler,
Teasdale, Parrel], Smith, Pinch and Hunter. Mr Armstrong, County Engineer, was also in attendance. The minutes of tho last, ordinary and special meetings were confirmed, and the outgoing correspondence read and adopted. Enginkwi's Hm'OUT.—The Engineer read his monthly report, and stated that the culverts on the Alexandra road, Kihikihi-
Cambridge road and Orakau road might be allowed to stand over for a little time yet, as the cost of the other works would be about £200. The Ohote Creek bridge was in an unsafe condition, and the embankment might collapse at any time, thus rendering the road impassable. If the works as recommended iu the report were done nothing beyond ordinary repairs would be necessary in the County for some time. The Council decided to call for tenders for these works in the order, as they became most urgent, and Or. ltidler proposed that tenders be called for the Ohote Creek bridge, and the culvert 011 the Kihikihi-Te Awamutu road near .Mr Cunningham's, to lie in at the next meeting of the Council.— Seconded by Cr. Earrell and carried, "F i:.\'l>S,—The clerk stated that tho overdraft at present stood at £704, but that the rates were now coining in. The following statement with reference to the allocations to the various ridings was read : — Amount Amount Riding Voted. Kxpended. Teasriale aud carried. Bad Road.—Mr H. J. Saulbrey, Ngaruawahia, wrote complaining of a dangerous hole near the Maiuiahape Creek bridge, and also of a pit at the side of the road near Mr Parker's, and asking that the hole be filled up and the titree round the pit cut. —The engineer reported that the hole at the bridge had bsen filled up, and he thought that it would be better if the pit was left as at present as the titreo growing along the edge was a protection against, people driving into tho pit, and tho Clerk was instructed to reply to that effect. Dot; Ricgi.stkai;.—A letter was read from tho dog registrar complaining of the difficulty in getting in money and iu making tho register tally with the numbers.—Thu Clerk stated thai, last year £47 18s (id had been received for dog fees, while this year he had as yet only received £115. The clerk was instructed lo inform the registrar that, ho must account for the collars supplied, at tho next meeting of the Council, or the Council would have to proceed against his sureties. Resignation".—Mr J. Grice tendered his resignation as a member of the Council as he was leaving for England. The resignation was accepted, and the Clerk was instructed to take steps to fill the vacancy.
"Klax-jiiia.—Mr T. W. Maunder wrote to tliu effect that the flax-mill at Frankton was ri«t". on tlio road, but that ho had erected a wattle fence along side of the road, and lie requested the Council to allow him to leave it up for about two months longer.—The Cleric reported that the mill was not on the road, but on what had been the old road, (he present one beiug a deviation, which belongs to the Highway Hoard.— Cr. liiddler said that if the mill was not on the road, the Council could not take any action, but they should not give authority to erect the fouce. There had been great complaints about the trouble caused to horses, but as there had been no complaint to the Council, they could do nothing.—The Clerk was instructed to reply that the Council decline any responsibility whatever.
An.vuai, Mketin'G.—A circular was received from the Colonial Secretary, stating that the Governor would be advised to postpone the day of the annual meeting to the 3Lst December of those counties which concur in the proposal as holding the annual meeting on the 27th inst. would prevent county chairmen from being present at the opening of the New Zealand and South Seas Exhibition, at Dunedin, on the 2(ith inst. —The Clerk was instructed to reply that it would be necessary to hold the annual meeting on the usual day, as it would be necessary to elect the hospital representatives on that day. Kkductiox.—On the application of Mr Ridler, the valuation of tho mill property was reduced to £'200, the mill having been destroyed by fire since the valuation, and as he had since disposed of the property his name was struck olf the roll.
Earthworks. —The engineer was instructed to pet some earthworks done at the approach to the Rtmgiaohia Cemetery.
