COMMERCIAL.
The Waikato Times Office, Wednesday. MKLBOUKNE MARKETS. The Now Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency report Melbourne, October 2nd. The week lias shown a somewhat unsettled feeling dining it* currency in the grain market, and though some rather large sales have teen made, prices show no improvement. The arrival of (he Cairnboul from Now Zealand with shipment* of oats, barley, maize and wheat has, to some extent, adversely influenced the feed grain market, and as supplies still continue to como forward from the same direction, lower rates must be looked for as the nnrket proceeds. So far as wheat is concerned, prime samples are unaltered, and appear likely to improve again. One holder of 10,000 bags of wheat in Melbourne .stores has cleared out, and there is an impression that prices may again harden, but in no H.'ason have opinions differed so materially in in this one on the question ot supply. It now seems, however, fully evident that theie was no actual cause for the big jump prices took earlier in the year, and that this market is now suffering from the reaction induced by operations grounded on a mistaken estimate of the supply. The now, or rather the increased duties ou grain, as announced in our last week's report, come into force on the 21th inst.
