RINK CARNIVAL AT OHAUPO.
On Wednesday the closing of the season of the Eureka rink was celebrated by a fancy dress carnival and dance, in the Ohaupo Hall, which was decorated for the occasion with ferns and flowers. Considering the unfavourable weather which has been experienced for the last day or two, the attendance was very good, visitors having come from all parts of the district. The costumes were, on the whole, very fair, some of them being fearfully and wonderfully made, while two or three of them were decidedly original. Where there were so many who looked well it would be_ undesirable to select one or two for special mention, so we will simply say that " Each one looked better than the other." The following aro the names and costumes of those in fancy dross : —Miss Dillon, Spanish Dancing Girl ; Miss Macdonald, Fairy ; Miss AVindsor, Ivy ; Miss Williamson, Red White and Jllue j Miss Cassidy, Housemaid ; Miss Nell Cassidy, Swiss Peasant Girl ; Miss Lizzie Cassidy, Red Riding Hood ; Miss McComish, Night ; Miss Lizzie McComish, Miss Hard castle ; Miss Bukowsky, Ivy ; Mias Karl, Italian Peasant Girl; Miss Krippner, Ancient Roman Girl. Mr. Show, Californian Gold Digger ; Mr. S. Mason, .Jockey ; Mr. Murray, Ancient Irishman; Mr. P. Karl, Night and Day ; Mr. F. Karl, Native Chief ; Mr. J. Cassidy, Coloured Gentleman ; Mr. C. E. Ivusabs, Coloured Lady ; Mr. Norrish, Athlete ; Mr. V. Papeseh, Man o' Warsman, Mr. Kirke, Naval Bandsman ; Mr. Riclidale, Yankee Cowboy ; Mr. A. Ivusabs, Footballer ; Mr. G. Parker, Footballer. After l inking had been indulged in for some time, dancing commenced, and was kept up with great spirit, and evident enjoyment until an early hour in the morning. The music, which was all that could be desired, was supplied by Mr A. Wallace, violin, and Mr A. Jones, melodeon, whilst Mr Cassidy as M.C. gave every satisfaction. Some amusing contrasts were noticeable whilst the dancing was going on, in one place eoukl be seen an Ancient Irishman and an Italian Peasant Girl, in another place were a Gold Digger and a Fairy, a little further on the Spanish Dancing Girl tripping around with a Footballer, without mentioning the numerous other combinations which would take up too much space to enumerate. This is the first event of its kiud which has taken place in Ohaupo, let us hope that the next will be even more successful which, with favourable weather, there is no doubt that it will be.—A Correspondent.
