PARLIAMENT.
(n\- TELKGKAPH.— I'IiESS ASSOCIATION.) . HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES. MONDAY. Tin-; House met at 2.30. The report of the Joint Library Committee was that all persons bs excluded from the library during the recess excepting the Governor and members of Parliament. .Sir H. Atkinson moved that the report be referred back for reconsideration. He entirely dissented from the resolutions embodied in the report which he thought altogether in the wrong direction. After some discussion the motion was agreed to. The Distillation Act Amendment Bill was introduced and read a first time.
Sir H. Atkinson moved that the House will, to-morrow, rox'ilve itself into a committee of the whole to consider resolutions on the subject o£ the Ocean Mail Service.
Agreed to. The report of the free conference on the Fire and Marine Insurance Companies Bill was agreed to. Mr Fergus mnyed the second reading of the Naval, Military Settlers' and Volunteers Land Claims Bill, which was introduced to give etfect to the report of the Select Committee on the subject.
Agreed to. The Knmara Sludge Channel Bill, Educational Kndowment Bill, Korauui Reserve Bill, aud Poutonto Jurisdiction Bill were rend a second time. The Ormiakatea Title Empowering Bill passed through committee without ainendment. The Ngarara and Waipero 1< urther Investigation Bill was considered in committee. The Houße rose at u.30. The House resumed at 7.30, and went into Committee on the Ngarara and Waipiro Investigation Bill, which passed with several amendments. The Native Laud Frauds Prevention Bill was further considered in Committee, and several new clauses added.
Seven Bills passed through committee were read a third time, and passed.
Mr Fish asked whether there any truth in the report published in the livening Tost to the etfect that tho officers who had recently been promoted by the Defence Department, were provided with uniforms obtained from England at a cost to the colony of £900. Mr' Fergus said there was 110 truth in the statement.
The Speaker called attention to the fact that an order signed by him for the payment of memhers' honorariums of two guineas a day had been refused payment at the Treasury. The order was refused 011 tlie ground that mouey would have to be reserved for other purposes. A committee waa appointed to enquire into the circumstances.
The Property Tax ]jill was introduced by message and read a lirst time. The Government Loans to Local Bodies Bill was road a second time, comniitteed, read a third time, and passed. After some discussion,on the question of adjournment the House rose at 10.30 p.m.
