WAIORONGOMAI.
Buck Reki\—lt is said that driving on a big scale on this reef is to bo commenced forthwith by the proprietor of the To Aivha Silver and Gold Mining Company. Operations will be started on a level with the tramway, but whether tho prospects are good or otherwise remains to be seen. New Eka.— Five acres of this famous special claim, represented by the Ferguson syndicate, which it will be remembered has its roots and branches in Glasgow, have been seized by the Union Bank, and will be put up to auction by the bailiff on Monday. This proceedings has caused considerable comment, and, to a great degree thrown a damper on our hopes, which it "will bo remembered by some, were raised high about six months ago, on tho return of Mr Ferguson from Scotland, representing, it was said, capital equal to £00,000, to be applied for reduction works and developing purposes. Unkind people have gone so far to account for tho present action as to say that tho Scotch are tentative of the siller, be that as it may, the syndicate have forwarded a large quantity of valuable machinery, and it is to be sincerely hoped, it will not, through disuse, catch rust. Tu Aroma Silver and Colo Mining Co.--Active operations are goinf on at the tiatterv, where parcels of stone from different" claims, including some from the Tui, are being put through. Any lesults are kept particularly quiet, and tho only s itisfaction the public can get is that the new stampers are doing first-class work. It is expected that the roaster will be. started agdn soon. Some of the carpenters, who were engaged in tile fixing of the new stampers, have, I hear, been engaged to proceed to Waihi to erect 40 head there. CuunriOßs' Meeting. — Tiio workmen lately in the employ of one of our large bush contractors, whose financial affairs are somewhat warped, at. a meeting on Thursday last, agreed to accept as in the £ cash, LN (id in six months and 2< lid in 12 months. Their conduct was highly eulogiied at a subsequent meeting of the general creditors, who agreed to accent os in two months and (id in six and twelve months. Payne Family.—These talented people paid us a \ i-it on Friday evening. The Public Hall was packed to its utmost limits, and the enteitainment was greatly appreciated.
