PLAIN AND FANCY DRESS BALL.

A very successful plain and fancy dress ball was held in Hamilton last evening, at which about thirty couples were present. The floor was in splendid order, and the hall was nicely decorated with flags and Chinese lanterns, Mr S. Kirk made an efficient M.C., and a varied programme of 24 dances was gone through, the music supplied by Mr Mettam's quadrille band being excellent. To say that the supper arrangements were in the hands of Mrs Hill is sufficient, her capabilities as a providore being well-known. Dancing was kept up with vigour till the wee sma' hours, and all enjoyed their night's amusement. Tho following is a list of the characters we worn able to obtain: Miss McOormish as Miss Hardcastle: Miss A. Hill, Pet of the Army ; Miss Ryan, Fish Girl ; Miss L. Coombes, Baby Coquette ; Miss A.
