Poetry.

WE SOON SHALL MEET. I held your hand, I said good-bye ; My \v;iy lay far tiy l.incl and sea ; Tho night wii.s shrouding earth and sky, And clouded out your face from me, While through tho darkness, chill and sircar. Your parting words ran/; silver sweet: (> love, tiiko ctunfiirt, have no fear, Wo siinn shrill moot, wo soon shall moot. 0 lender words whose music rings, Through all the silence of tho years, 0, bitter pain whose anguish brings, The, salt of unavailing team — Across the hind 1 wont my way Beyond tho sea, through storm and foam, But further yet your journey li'.y. My darling that I left at home. So f.nr, that not by day or night fly sun or star, on hind or sea, For over, love, your smile shall light Tho darkness of tho world for me ! Ah ! dear our earthly dreams are done, Yet one sweet thought, your words repeat Beyond the stars, beyond the sun, We soon shall meet, wo soon shall meet. FAITH. Star of the soul ! whose sapphire light Dispels the mists of earth, Eternal sun excludes tho night In Heaven thy place of birth. Shed o'er tho darkness of our life Thy (jlnry from above, Dissolve i.uspicion, doubt and strife With living lire of love. Science thy nature cannot test; Thy forco divino and clear, Points to the pood, and tries the best, Like great Ithuriel's spear. What vast achievements have been wrought By mutual esteem, When brothers h.indin-hand have sought Thy bright magnetic beam ! Down thy soft radiance angels' feet A silvery path have trod, While mortals heard, in union sweet, The mysteries of God. Light of tho heart ! lead nn, load on— Thou pole star of our way, Till all thy powers, when night is gouo, I'ade in the perfect day. — A. CI. L'EstraiiKC.
