Tuk Public Works Statement has been received in the Waikato without exciting any interest iu the community. It is, as it professes to be, a mere detail of the method in which the Government propose to expend the remnant of borrowed money. There is no question of policy involved in the Statement, neither is there that glitter of millions which formerly distinguished similar deliveries, and was tho signal for a general scramble. As regards the North Island Trunk Railway, it is well the Government hive resolved to first acquire the lands from tho natives, through which the line passes, before committing themselves to any further important engagements or contracts.
