The celebrated and lamented explorer Leioliardtarrived at Port ICssingtou from one of his overland trips in the year 1545. lie mentions seeing a large herd of buffnlos at an early date, and some idea c.n be formed .f ihe immensity of their numbers now after a period of 40 years' uninterrupted increase.
