ATTEMPT TO WRECK A TRAIN.
I BY EKLKC.UAPH.—I'HK.SS ASSOCIATION.] CmtisTCiiuituH, Monday. A dam.vg attempt was made last night to throw the Lyttleton train off the rails. At 9 p.m., as the train was 100 yards from the Lyttleton end of the mouth of the tunnel, the engine crashed through pieces of metal known as "chairs," nialieionsly placed there. Luckily tlio engine was slowing down, so it cut through the chairs, which were made of cast iron, without difficulty. The perpetrators are supposed to be drunken sailors, or larrikins. There is no clue yet.
