NEWCASTLE ROAD BOARD.
Thi-: ordinary meeting of this board was held on Wednesday 10th inst., Present Messrs Corb»y, (chairman) Bycroft, Corbett, McKnight and Foxall. Tho minutos iif the last meeting wero read and confirmed. Tlie ciirrespondence sent aad received was read, and the certiried balance sheet for the year ended 3Ut March 183!) was kid on the table.
Mattki! in Dispute.—Mr Bycroft re ported having asked Mr J. Grix on behalf »f tlie board and Mr Win. Harris on behalf of Mr Liinmer to act as arbitrators iu the matter in dispute between Mr Limmer and the board, and of tlieir having consented to act. Tho chairman reported that Messrs Uri.x and Harris had called on him for particulars on the 2-lth June last to enable them to proceed with the above arbitration. The following award was received and re,\d os fcillnwii:—To the Chairman Newcastle Road Board : Slit,-Wo the undersigned as arbitrators in the case of Liinmer v. the Newcastle Road Board visited and inspected the works in dispute and judge tlie valno of the work done as follows :— Shifting 2") yards of earth at 7d per ciiliic yard. 1-U 7d ; procuring and fixing willows, 7s ; 12 yaid.s sand at Carpenter's cutting at 10d per yard, 10s ; 12 yards sand at Morrison's cutting at Sd per yard, 8s ; one day's work repairing same, us. Amount ot awsrd, i' 2ls TrJ.—(Signed) W. Harris and J. Grix, Arbitrators. —It was rosolvod that Mr Liinmer be paid tho sum of t'2 Is 7d, amount of award, as payment in lull of his claims iigaiust the Board.—Mr Bycroft reported that he had let the balance of thi! work on Corhctt's road thrown up by Mr Li'iuiiflr to W. Harris at schedule rates and that the works were well advanced towards completion,—Resolved, that the .=um of 7s (id be paid J. Grix as tho Board's arbitrator in Limnier's case.
BhOaK.v Cui.vittiT.—A complaint was made aW.ut Mr Rothwell having brokun down and displaced a culvert on the old Whatawhata road over 3 month's ago, and asking the. Board to take the matter into consideration. The Board expressed sur-pri.-o that Mr Ucthwell never reported the matter to the Board, he being then a iiieinbiu, of tiie Board. The Clerk was instructp.d to write and ask Mr Rothwell to replace the timber displaced by him, and to inform him that the board will hold him accountublo for any damage that may occur through his displacing the culvert until such a time as the Hoard can erect a new one.
Ni-:w BitmiiK.—lt was resolved that Mr Mcivnight be authorised to have a bridge on Shcphard's road made. Ratk Struck.—Resolved in accordance with rcsolutii n passed at last meeting and advertised, that a general rate of .jd in the t! on tho ratable value of all the ratable property in the Newcastle road district, for the current year, payable m one sum on Ist August next, to the collector. llOAi) Woitic—ln addition to the works authorised to be undertaken at last meeting, it was decideil to do some work on Kawke's road, and gravel about lOchains on tho road between the Whatawhata postoffice and tho Hamilton-Whatawhuta o.unty roads, am) that tenders bo called by tho clerk to be in by the next meeting of the Board. The Board then rose.
