Mrsic.u. Entbkt.un'.mk.nt.— The concert and dramatic entertainment in aid of the organ fund of St. Patrick's Church given here :>n Friday last was fairly successful, considering- tho difficulties of locomotion of nny kind in travelling our roads. Father Luck presided, and under his superintendence everything passed off most pleasantly. The night was a fine ono after the rain*, with n hoavy frost, which, however changed to rain again in tho morning, which must h:ivc causes! an unpleasant return journey to some of our more distant \isitors. The- first item on the programme, the overture piano and violin played by Mrs Helps and Mr Goodfollow was a fine performance, somewhat marred, however, by the piano being out of tune. Tho duet by Misses Steele and Allen was well executed and narrowly escaped an encore. Mr Miles' song, " Kar Away, , ' in character, was enthusiastically 10-demandod, and rneori! verses given in response. Mr Ohristio's songs wore greatly appreciated, and " The (food Young Man Who .Died," given in response to an encore of " White Wings," was the song of tho e.vcning. Miss Allen's songs were as fully appreciated as ever. Tho New Zealand Twins in their extrawrdinary make-up and c uiic song caused roars of laughter, but the uproarious t ncore was not lesponded to, the rev. chairman explaining that the twins were too good to be. produred twice the same evening. The duct, Jiinnitu, by Miss A. Finch and Miss Steele was very nicely sung, Mrs Helps playing the accompaniment in her usual satisfactory manner. Tho following was tho programme :—Overture, piano and violin,. Mr Goodfellow and Mrs Helps; dui't, "Jr.anita," Miss Finch and Miss SiiM'lo ; song, (comic) "Far Away," Mr Miles (piienred); song, "Somebody's Coming," Miss Cassin ; song, " White Wings," Mr Christie (encored); song, *'D.-arJ Hearts," Miss Allr:n (encored); song, by Tho New Zealand Twins, Chappell and Miles; pianoforte, duet, Missea Snge ; duet, " Pnlaski Banner," Miss Allen and Miss Steele ; song, "Magpie Said Conic In," Mr Christie (encored). The Rev. Father Luck gave a short address thanking those who so kindly gave their assistance, and the audience for their attendance ; and after an interval of ten minutes tho curtain rose to tho amusing farce "The Loan of a Lover," with tho following cafites : Captain Amesford, Mr C. Bockett; Peter Spyk, Mr G Miles; Swy.-.el, Mr W. Cbappell ; Polue. Mr S. Gilford ; Gertrude, Miss Harper; Enipstino Van Rosendaal, Miss K. Wilson. As this farce has already been performed here and noticed in TllK Waikato Timiw. on this occasion we need only remark that all fully sustained, if not improve;) the favourable impression made on Us first production. All wore, recalled before llio curtain at the conclusion of the farce. The concluding item on the proprrnininu was the grand tableaux of Faith, Hope, and Chiirity, the character* respectively being taken iiy throe of the fahrst daughters of the. district, viz., Misses C. Steele, R. Allen and A. Finch. This was a ailistic grouping, and (he rising of the curtain was greeted with such a round of applaiisu that inusl ha\o mure than repaid the t iiiio and trouble, caused by its production to our energetic stage manager, Mr W. ?.'.. Chappell. The dresses and nccu.--.sory propi'itie-i were most classic, tasteful, ai: i appropriate to the character represented, and most admirably sustained by the young ladies, without a singlo perceptible intiviMi.ent on their part. Two very young ladies who knelt at tho feet of Charity, extending their hands as if receiving aid, Miss G. Finch and Miss (J. Meredith, added greatly to the charm of tho tableaux. Loud cheers rewarded the iictors at the fall of thn curtain. The usual dance with rnlimitod refreshments of a light character weie hospitably served to all coiiiors to an early hour next niorn- '"£• __________
