Auckland, Friday. At the Board of Education meeting to-day the imly matter (if interest in the Chairman's report was a letter forwarded to the City SchooU Committee, in which it was pointed nut that there were seventeen assistant teachers in the city schools in excess of requirements. The Board proposfid to reduce the number gradually by sending teachers to the country schools. The Board approved the action of the chairman in the matter. Considerable discussion took place on tin question of .school accommodation, and it was ultimately resolved to erect school:! at Waifcna Valley, Wanaka, Karangahake and Motokaraka.
The Gjvernment say thoro is not the slightest inteiiLinn of interfering with Government House, Auckland. It will be maintained for the use of the Governor or Admiral, just as usual.
