The above Council met at 7 p.m. on Tuesday. Present: The Mayor (Mr Clements), Cis. Hallv,. Webber, Richardson, Ferguson, Gillett and Bond. The year's accounts I have sent to the Crown prosecutor, .at Auckv land, with" instructions to return it to you as soon as he-h&s 'verified the' facts whicli I have submitted, and which "I lear will necessitate proceedings boin^'taken'under the 203 rd section of tho Municipal Corporations Act for an overdraft" having been incurred in excess of thfl statutable"'limits.*" —The Clerk had forwarded a copy of the Financial Committee's report uf May 23t'd, which thoroughly explained how the overdraft had arisen. Ho also pointed" out, that tho Council had at'onco grappled with the dilliculty. Lkcal and Finance Committees' ReI'OUT. —With reler'ence to tlieletter received from the Auditor-General, the committee recommend that a copy of ..the .finance report of the 23rd May bo forwarded to him, and that he bo informed that the overdraft had been reduced to iliioO 2s !)d, and after the license tees receivable on the 20th June, amounting to £.120, have been placed to the credit of the account, the overdraft will then be £530 2s ( Jd (bolow the authorised limit), and that the Council will in future take cart) that the legal limit is not again exceeded. From tho present "state of the bank overdraft, the committee recommend that after tho license . foes (£l-20) are received, tho surfaceman's account ending Bth June, £5 10s, be paid ; and also that Crouch- and Wattam bo paid £20 on account of gravelling, the balance of their account, as also the other existing liabilities to be paid as soon as there is money in hand to do so. WoliKS CoMinrrKK.—'The Works Committee's report stated that 229 yards of gravelling had been dime; and that the fence near the wharf had been repaired. It recommended M.rs Hill to have the siiniph near her house cleaned, and if it did not then carry away the surface water, the Council would take other steps to get l'id of it.—The report was adopted. The Fokt-sthket Turks.—Cr. Webber stated that a num'.ier of deciduous trees in' Fort-street wero being spoiled by the.piuus iusignis that were overgrowing them. The surfaceman was willing to remove them free of cost, if the Council w-mld permit him.— On the motion of the Mayor, seconded by Cr. Ferguson, it was decided to let Preece remove the trees, providing the Council was not put to any expense. The work to be under the supervision of the Works Committee. Nkw Kate.—lt was resolved that public notice be given i.u terms of the Hating Act, IS7G, and Municipal Corporations Act, LS7I>, that it is the intention of the Council to meet on Tuesday, 9th July, 188'J, for tho purpose of making a rate of Is in the £ for the year ending March olst., 1890, payable in one sum at the oflice of the Treasurer on the first day of August, 1889. Accounts. —The following accounts were passed :—H. I'reece, £5 10s; Crouch and Wattam, £20. The Council then rose.
