RAGLAN.
The Rowena. —Our local trader the s.s. Rowena, previous to arrival on her last trip here on the 27th of last month, had taken a barge in tow into Kawhia Harbour, her destination being Mokau, but finding it too stormy she did not proceed further than the former place, intending on her next trip down the coast to call in for the barge. News came from Kawhia on Saturday that the Rowena had gone out of Kawhia Harbour on Friday evening with the barge in tow for Mokau and the s.s. Gairloch brought the information that she was seen below Mokau on Saturday morning.
The Gairloch. —On Saturday afternoon the s.s. Gairloch put in her appearance. She had proceeded from Taranaki with a cargo of 60 head of cattle and a number of sheep on board, bound for Onehunga. When reaching the Black Rock, near the Waikato Heads, she found that she was not making headway, and Captain McArthur determined, in consequence of the very heavy weather to come into this harbour. She had three passengers on board, two of whom were Mr Grace, native interpreter, and Detective Twohey, of Auckland. The latter proceeded overland to that city.
New House.—We are informed that the native chief Mita Karaka, who resides here and whose house was burnt down some time since, intends rebuilding again upon the old site ; the timber and material are coming from Onehunga in the next steamer.
