(BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.) Auckland, Monday. The Auckland Permanent Building Society has made a net profit of £3,030 for the year, but is carrying a larger sum than usual forward to provide for possible losses ; it will pay only a five per cent, dividend. Henry Stevenson walked over the Hobvm-strcet embankment, and received injuries which are likely to prove fatal. Thos. Loigh White, the missing bankrupt, against whom proceedings were to be taken, cannot be found by th« dotectives, and it is said ho left the colony a week ago. The Licensing Onmmitten had a stiff battlo with tho legal gentlemen to-day over their announced determination to close various hotels in Auckland North. They adhered lo their declared determination to close tho Eagle, Foresters, Olanricarde and Wharf Hotels, but an informality in tho notices served having occurred they adjourned tho cases to the 20th inst. Tho Aurora and Shamrock were also adjourned for the purpose of receiving further consideration. Early this mornincT the dead body of J. F. Benallack, cooper and 'bus proprietor at Penrose Junction, was found on the side of the road lending from Panmuro to Penrose. The cause of death is unknown, but it k coujoctured that the cait deceased was driving capsized over a large furze bush growing on the side of the road, and the driver was thrown out and killed. Benallack was a young man, well-known and respected.
