Thb Judgo in his charge said the calendar presented on thu present occasion is ap parently iv somewhat serious one, but it is not so serious as it seems. There are some twenty charges against sixteen persons, there being several charges of the same nature against two or three of the persons accused, Nor are the charges, as a rule, of a very serious naturo. There are one w two very serions charges, and the most serious one is a charge of murder in which a man is charged with having stabbed a woman and caused her death. The judge then briefly reviewed chief points in the various cases (in the calendar. The first taken was that of Joseph Hood, charged with larceny from a dwelling. The prisoner was convicted and sentenced to four years' penal servitude. John Thomas Wattes pleaded guilty to burglariously entering a dwelling near Otahuhu and stealing a gun. His Honor said that in consideration of his youth and this beir.g his first offence he would only sentence him to two years' penal servitude.
