ROOT SHOW, CAMBRIDGE.

Although the season has been a bad one for root crops, and in spite of stormy weather on Saturday, the show by Mr G.J. Neal, of roots grown from Webbs' seed, was the best yet held in the Waikato. There was a fine display of imperial Swedes which were large and of Rood quality. Those exhibited by Messrs R. Reynolds, E. Rhodes, R. Fisher, J. Taylor, Scott Bros., and Burnett Bros., would not disgrace any show, while others were of good quality. Messrs Scott Bros., would have taken first prize but for a mistake in the number of roots shown in new invincible, a yellow flesh turnip, which was a feature of the show, being good in shape, size and quality, and very useful to sow after a crop of swedes. Duncan Campbell would have taken first honours but for the wrong , ; number sent. The purple-top mammoths from Mr Cowling, of Hautapu, were of enormous size, but too old, and those shown by Messrs Burnett Bros, also failed to take a prize, quality being paramount to size. Carrots were not equal to last year, those from Mr G. Willey, Kirikiriroa, wore very large, six weighing forty pounds, but the quality was coarse. Mangolds were piorly represented, those shown by Mr E. Maclean were fine roots. The following is the prize list;—lmperial •wedes, K. Reynolds, first and second prizes ; invincible turnip, W. Tucker, first, W. Morgan, second; p'irple top mammoth, J'aton Bros., first, John Bridgman, second; white Belgian carrots, K, Morse; yellow Belgian carrot, O. Garland ; intermediate carrot, W. Tucker; yellow globo mangold, Kvory McLean; long red mangold, Kvery McLean: hollow crown pat snip, John Chambers; kohl rabi, R. Reynolds. Messrs G. E. Clark, W. Reynolds and John Fisher wero judges, and took great great pains to combine quality with size in giving their decisions, many roots being cut open to arrive at a correct conclusion.
