WAIKATO COUNTY COUNCIL.
Thr usHal monthly meeting of the YVaikato County Council was held in the Couucil Clumbers, Hamilton East, at 3 p.m. yesterday. There were present : Crs. Primrose (chairman), Seddon, Forrest, Barugh and Johnson. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed, and the outward correspondence rrad and received. Lot 41!).— The Education Commissioners wrote stating that they could not grant lot 41!) to the Council, giving them power to sub-let, and suggesting that the best thing to do would oe to let the matter remain in abeyance until after the next session. Tti'HOII). —Dr. Murch reported several cases of typhoid fever at Huntly. He attributes the outbreak of the disease to the water used by the people, which is obtained from holes, and into which swamp water percolates. Ho suggested that a well be dug at the foot of the hill, from which the people could obtain water. Liuknsing Act.—Support was recpiested by the Hut.t County Council to a petition emanating from them for presentation at the nevt session of Parliament, praying that the Licensing Act be so altered as to vest the powers and duties of the Licensing Committees as at present constituted, in the various local bodies. The chairman was authorised to sign the petition on behalf of the Council.
Cuowx Lands.—A copy of the petition from the Tauranga County Council proposing an amendment of the' Crown Lands Act to alter the manner of taking up Crown Lands. The clerk was instructed to reply, suggesting that a clause compelling occupation should be inserted in the petition. Flax-mill.—Cr. Johnson read a letter from Capt. Lindsay, stating that he was going to erect a flax-mill at Matahura, pud that tho road near Storey's was not passable, the swamp there wanting something done to it, and suggesting that the road from the swamp »t Hill's should be formed, as the road at present used, passes through private property, and the owner might object to the heavy traffic— It was decided on the suggestion of Cr. Johnson, that the engineer lay out the road from Mangapiko to .Hill's, and that something be done on the swamp near Storey's.—lt was resolved that the chairman, engineer and Cr. Johnson inspect the various roads to ascertain what is necessary and call for tenders at next meeting. Culvkut.—The Engineer was instructed to lay a culvert of IS inch pipes between Rangiriri and the station. Ciiukchill Punt.—Mr Somerset, on bo half of the Raglan County Council, attended, and suggested that as the Raglan County Council had applied for the control of this punt, the cost of maintenance should be borne equally by the two counties. The Council declined to bear any part of the cost of this punt unless a petition !<e received from the ratepayers of the Rangiriri Riding, asking them to take over the punt. Balanuk-siikkt.—As the annual balancesheets had not been received back from the Auditor, they could not bo signed. Rath.—A rate of : ,'d in tho £ was struck in the Rangiriri riding. Xauiiows Buincrc.—The Engineer reported that some dangerous holes in tho Narrows bridge had been repaired. Accounts. —The following payments were authorised :—Pennell, £2 7s (id ; Till! Waikato Tmics, £1 lis 2d ; T. XV. Maunder, £'3li 14s7d ; J. Dixon, £!); Dr. Murch, til ; F. J. Johnson, £1 10s; J. Forrest, 10s; Win. Findley, £2 10s ; A. Kiddie, £3. This concluded the business, and tho Board rose.
