FOOTBALL.
Hamilton East School v. Cambridge East School. A match between teams from the above schools was played yesterday on Sydney Square, and was won by tho Cambridge team by one goal to a try, three points to one. By sonic mistake- a combined team of West and East school boys was chosen to play a coin bined team of East and West Cambridge schools ; but only the Cambridge East school boys came down, and when they found this out they naturally ohjectid to play the two Hamilton schools. The Hamilton West beys were first asked to play alone, but declined. The mistake having originated from the Hamilton Hast boys, tiny picked tin a team on the ground, and faced the visitors, and had a very enjoyable game. Hamilton Hast began and kicked olf with the sun behind them. Williams of Cambridge made the first good run but was stopped by (r. tiilietl. Evans followed suit but was grassed by the same player. Aleut the middle of the spell Cambridge was very hard pressed, ami from a tight .scium Coatcs got tlie hall, made a splendid dodgy run and got in b<-him! the nests. The kick at g-id taken by I'Ved Cowper was a failure. Aiter this Cambridge woke up and drove the ball to the Hamilton end forcing (hiwii the home team, Williams and I'. Richardson running well but were stopped by Frank Cowper and i'\ (idling. The lii.st spell ended with Hamilton Hast I'll" po : nt, and Cambridge nil. In tho second spell the C unbridle, b >ys played a looser g line, as they foun-1 (hey could not cope with the heavy Hamilton forwards. Williams very soon got the ball, and would have got in but for Frank Covp'r. Geoff (idling nearly succeeded in getting through the Cmibrid'ge boys. Williams worked splendidly, and had his singles torn off, so played without any. He. mole a niaguilieent inn rigid- through the home team and got a try, tile Hamilton boys not being able, to hold liim, as their hands slipped off his skill. Williams took the kick, which the umpire gave us a goal. Towards the end the Cambridge boys were hard unshed, and had to force the ball to save themselves. Williams relieved his side by a giand run, and got past all the Hamilton boys ; Arthur Coates at full back managed to hold his arm for a nv-ment, causing Williams to srmnble and fell. This was the last play of impoi tance. When time was c.dled the scores were, . Cambridge three points, Hamilton one. It. Gillett, tho Hamilton captai;.', played a sterling game, and kept his side up to their work ; there were several who needed driving. The following were the teams : —Cambridge Hast: Walker (captain), Richardson, Williams, Cameron (3). lOv-.ir,--, Hates, Nixon (2), .Morrison, Miller, Tuck and C'arnahan. Hamilton Ivist: R. tlillet (captain), H. Hope, Cowper ('J), (Jelling A. Coates, Kelly, Ivingslej*, Hvans, Dev. Land and Oevitt. Mr •!. Tild was umpire. After i.lie game the Cambridge boys were entertained at the Hamilton Hist School, the lunch being provided by the East and West Hamilton Schools.
