There wns a large attendance, at this entertain[iient, and a splendid programme was gone through. After the concert the Rov. W. .1. Ka Items, who pre-irled, pre-eiited, on behalf of the Chinch of England people, a. niagiiilkent; silver watch, chain and appendages to Miss Emily liobson and a similar gilt to Miss Annie Cock, who have been, i espectively, organist and superintendent of the Sunday-school connected with the Church for some time past. Football.—The local football club hold a conceit and dance this week, and havo arranged a first-class programme. The club is increasing in number and strength, and is looking foiward to a successful

Mining,—ln mining tho best news is the return from the last cleaning up cf the tribute in the Smile of Fortune, Owharoa, owned by Messrs Fanner and party. 105oz. good gold is the result. Good news is to hand from Waihi, where there is said to be a great improvement in the Nut claim. This claim is owned by Hancock and party, and ispaitoflhe old Martha ground. A winze has been sunk on tho reef known as Nut, about 70 feet from the main crosscut and oie to tlie value of i'-10 per ton is being grassed. The management of the Waiht Gold Mining Company's proprietory are very reticent concerning these returns, but the concern is evidently showing fairly well. Mr Melville, who represents a large. Glasgow syndicate (which floated the Crown at Karangahake some months ago) is negotiating for mining property in this district. At Karangahake the Cassell Gold extracting Company are erecting a tremendous building for their plant, which will bo finished and tho plant ready for treating ore by spring. Mr H. C. Wich, who bought the ore from Shepherd and party's tribute, at Karangahake, in value abmit £3000, has shipped the whole parcel to Friborg, Saxony. I understand that a dry crushing process is likely to be erected atWaihi by Mr Howell, of Waiorongomai, or, at least, on his system. Stkam Communication, —The I'.S. Enterprise is now running regularly on tho Auckland-Paeroa trade. Freights have been reduccd and the vessel is doing well.
