Sm,-In your able le:ider of the 14th inst., on the Education question and Mr I , i.sher h new Bill, in speaking of tho local committoes you have hit tho rieht nail on the head in describing them as a fifth wheel in a coach. In many districts thoy are tho lixiißhins stock of tho place, and tho respectable inhabitants keep out of them. An you very truly say thoy seem t<> be specially designer! to torture tho schoolmaster, and unless he is weak enough to give into them, load him the life of a dog until he resigns. It soem* hardly creditable, but I can assuro yon it is a fact, that thero are men on some of our country school committees, who could not write their own names if it was to save their lives, and I lately heard of one that out of the whole seven men not one could write a decent letter, and the chairman's wife had to do it, and yet these are tho sort of men who are to dictate to a man of education <<n educational matters, nndlwwa school is to be managed. When district school committees are marie up ™ tho t-i" ra" of the district, and the educated and intelligent keep out of them, it is certainly time that soma alteration should be made in the Act, is if the rowdies like to combine they can put in who thoy like at the election of a new committee. 1 matins y»u =n» nnd a corner for tho above — L remain, yours etc., V hkitas.
