Tub Kmperor William has advised a deputation from the colliery proprietors who waited upon him, to keep a close touch of the workmen, and use every effort to provide for their welfare. It is probable that a compromise will be arranged on the basis of eight hours' labour, with increased wages. Onc-lhird »f Use Westphalia strikers have arranged matter* with the coliiery proprietors and returned to work. The strikers in Silesia still huh! out, and show n menacing attitude towards the troops, and have wrecked several of the colliery building. A conflict took place between the military and miners, during which one of tho hitter was shot. The miners at Northumberland have gone out on strike, and have sent a message to Berlin sympathising with the Westphalia strikers. A SYCOPHANTIC PRESS. May l'.l. Tho Erendenblatt says that the Kmperor's action to the colliers' deputation from the strikers will be ever memorable. It i.s not the lensth of a monarch's reign, nor his rule, but his labours that make him supreme us a mediator and arbiter in tho cr.iso of truth.
