OR. JONES AND THE BOROUGH COUNCIL.

to rm-; i;im'OK. Sir —T noticed that the Hamilton T'.orough Council, during their .sitting on Tuesday evening last, passed a, resolution to the lowing effect, vi/„: —Cr. Knox moved Lhat t.h.-i letter appearing in Thh Waikato Timios of pril 13th, under the heading of " An Explanation," and sillied by William Jones is contrary to fact," which was seconded by Cr. Missen and carried, apparently unanimously, no amendment having been proposed. Now, sir, without dwelling on the bad taste and unfair spirit shown by Ihe mover. and_ particularly the seconder in supporting it during my, absence, caused by illness, [ defy Cr. Knox nnd the rest of those who voted for his iiMtion, to prove the truth of it. T shall, if all be well with me, be at my place in t.iie Council next Tuesday evening, and challenge Cr. Knox to produce the iccords of the' Council in which it states that authority was Riven at any time previous to the meeting held on Dili of April (when it was passed for payment) to defend the Council against Eees' action at law or go to :my expense whatever, and I invite. all t.ie burgesses who can to make, it a point to attend on that evening, so that they may be in a n ositiou to judge as to whose statement is false. As this, Mr Editor, may be a seiioii.-i matter to those councillors wlu have, without authority, squandered the I',..rough rates in this unseemly squabble with the late, ranger, and out of which the Council only came second best, and which under no means of fair play oiigot fo have been contested, but amieibly settled, is my reason for n-l;ing you to give this letter publicity.—Yours. &e., Wi[.i.iAM .JONES.

[Our reporter states that Cr. Wood voted against tho above resolution on Tuesday night.—Kn. W. T.J
