The New Zealand Times of Wellington says•.—" New Zealand's exports during the first quarter of 1881), amounted to the enormous and unprecedented value of £3,417,734. This is not even approached by any previous (luarter since the foundation of the colony, and is by far the largest quarter's export that has over yet left those shores. The imports during the same period amounted to only £1,721,'J58. as against £1,7r>5,(iG2 for the March quarter of ISBB, although the first is usually the best quarter of the calendar year in respect of imports, mainly on account of the seasun's importation of drapery, etc. Thus the quarter's oxports were as nearly as possible double the imports in value. For tho year ended 31st March tho imports were only £5,908,225, an exceptionally low total, while the exports were £8,201,089, the latter being the largest ever recorded in New Zealand for one year, and exceeding the imports by two and a half millions. The exact figures computed upon the average of the past three quarters would b0£13,C70,92G sterling."
