TE AROHA

MI.sitRPBKSKNTATiOJf.— Great disgust was expressed by members of the Town Board, and many of the townspeople, with a para graph which appeared on Wednesday in tho local print, wherein it was stated that the Hon. Mr Mitchelsan had arranged to receive a deputation representing the Te Arulia Town Board, at 8 p.m., but that after waiting for three quarters of an hour, and no deputation showing up, he very kindly said he would receive the deputation to-day instead." The facts are, the members of tho board, through their clerk, (Mr Charles Ahier) interviewed the Minister short'.y after his arrival, and it was thon arranged that ho would meet thein next morning between 10.30 and 11 o'clock, on the understanding that the Minister, after visiting the Waiorongomai works would be in a better position to verify their representations. Hearing, shortly afterwards that tho Minister would receive the deputation that evening, they again went in a body to the Club Hotel, and were told by Col. Fraser, that tho time fixed to receive them was between 10.30 and 11 next morning. In justice to themselves, tho members of the board drew the attention of the Minister to the misleading paragraph, and Mr Mitchelson remarked, " it's all right, I heard of it." Wakdkn's Court.—The usual fortnightly sitting of this Court was hold by Mr Warden Northcroft on Monday. The following claims, which are situated round about Te Aroha, were declared forfeited on account of non-working, viz. :—Lord Nelson, Silver Queen, Nevada, Bismarck and Mount Morgan. Applications for forfeiture were also mado for the Kuby claim (T. Goldsworthy) and the Monto Christo (H. Brett), but both were adjourned till May 2Sth. Montezuma, special claim. Application was also made by the Mining Inspector to declare this ground forfeited. The claim is in the names of Messrs T. Quoi and P. Faes. Mr l'avitt, Junr., appeared on their behalf, and stated that latterly they had experienced great difficulty in getting payment of calls. Tho shareholders had spent about £100 in driving, &c., and at the present time Mr Qiioi is negotiating to form it into a company. The Mining Inspector stated he had not been on the ground, which was a special claim—an exceptionally long strip in a line with the Tui. _ If the owners are prepared to go on working he had no desire to see it forfeited, seeing they had spent £150, and were on the line of reef. Adjourned to May 28th. Oceanea licensed holding : Mr J. Squirrcll applied for a license for this ground. Granted. This concluded the business.
