Cambridge West

The annual meeting of the Cambridge West School Committee was hold in the schoolroom on Tuesday. 23rd April, twenty five householders being present, Mr T.' W. Hicks was voted to the chair. The Cliairm.in requested the secretary to read the report of the School Committee for the past year, viz, "As in previous years the attendance has been very unsatisfactory ; out of 103 names on the roll the average attendance for the past quarter was only 73. An attempt tlxmld be made to raise the average to over 75, so as to entitle the school to a larger allowance of school funds. The irregular attendance is chiefly in the higher standards, where it is most injurious and it is also very disheartening to the teacher. The school was inspected and examined by Mr Goodwin, and both his reports are highly satisfactory. As it has been more than once inserted in the local press that tho examination results of the Cambridge East School are the best in the province, it may be said that Cambridge West School can be congratulated on being better than the best in this particular, our results being of a higher order than those of Cambridge East School, During the past eight years the average passes has been 83 per cent. At present, 1!) boys and girls are compoting fen , prizes and certificates issued by the Society of Arts for freehand drawing. The teacher is also bestowing more attention thau previously on agricultural science, and is now in communication with Professor Thomas on this snbject, and hopes to be aWe to carry out more fully some of his valuable suggestions. The sohool buildings aro in a good state of repair," We gave the names of the new committee last Thursisjue. A vote was taken on the introduction of Dr. Hichardjon's book into the school, when the majority of those present voted against it. A vote of thanks to the outgoing committee and chairman closed the annual meeting.
