MURDER AND SUICIDES By LOVERS.
The New York newspapers (a Manchester Guardian cablegram says) are full of the details of an extraordinary tragedy in humble life. James Gonsidine, a young workman, has been for some time past courting Carrie Nolan, an Irish girl, three years his junior. Cruel parents objected to this precocious love making, and of late the young couple have met by stealth. Despairing at length of obtaining parental sanction to their marriage, the lovers determined to destroy themselves. James purchased a quantity of poison, and the lovers then wandered into the street arm in arm, and after aimlessly tramping about a considerable time, sat down upon the pavement, and, embracing each other for the last time, each swallowed a largo dose of tlio poison. A. policeman soon afterwards came across the poor creatures. Both were lying on the ground insensible. They were taken to the nearest hospital, and the unhappy youth expired, Carrie Nolau revived under skilful medical treatment. A more sensational tragedy is reported from Chicago. Johu Dempsey, an engineer, had for some time been carryiag on an intrigue with a young lady, named Maud Mellau. Dempsey wrote to the lady askiug her to meet him on the steps of a church in one of the chief throughfaros in the city. The appointment was kept. Dempsey asked Miss Mellau to elope with him. She refused, and turned to leave her lover, whereupon Dempsey drew a revolver from his pocket and fired at her, killing hor instantaneously. Ho then blew out his own brains.
