IMPROVEMENT OF BABIES.

Almost everything under the sun Ins received the benefit of scientific; fiudy and researches, and now babies are to be taken in hand, and a great improvement is to be efl'ected. It is how proposed, l>y science, to increase the size of the human race, by removing from its infant growth, the pressure of atmosphere which constrains and represses it. The idea from a successful experiment at enlarging violets by placing them in thin billoons to be lifted where they might blossom in thinner air. A horticulturist of Versailles, in studying the physiology of the vegetable kingdom, conceived that the smallness of certain plants —the violet for example—was owing to an atmospheric pressure too great for their delicate organs. Having fixed this idea in his mind the florist conceived the notion of putting his idea into practice.
