In the course <>t his speecli in reply to the toast of the evening the Leader of the House of Commons, said he felt confident the cause of the Union would be triumphant if the mei chants, brokers and manufacturers supported it. He declared that the obstructionists in the House of Commons were trying to exhaust the physical strength of members. Mr Balfour, the Irish Secretary, also spoke during the evening and taunted the leaders of the Opposition wilh being impotent to control their followers below the gangway.
