HAMILTON LIGHT INFANTRY.

Rifle Match.

This first competition for Mr Endean's medal took place on the range on Saturday last. There were fifteen competitors, and the weather was all that could tie desired. The shooting, however, was wretched, and the only decent scores were those of Corporal Tristram and Colour-Sergeant Pearson. The ranges were 200, 500 and 000 yards, seven shots at each distance. At 200 yards the shooting was very even ; but at 500 yards a great falling-off took place, and on coming to the last range the two first men had emerged from the ruck, and the medal was looked upon as a moral for one of them. Pearson's chance, however, was the rosiest, he having a lead of five points. Tristram fired first, and made the respectable score of 22, comprising three bull's eyes, a magpie, two outers, and a miss. Pearson required IS to win, hut he fell off, and only succeeded in adding 13 to his score, which comprised an inner, a magpie, three outers, and two misses, and left Tristram a winner by four points. As showing the indifferent character of the shooting of the other competitors, it needs only to bo pointed out that there is a difference of eighteen points between the ucorcs of the first and third men. At the conclusiun of the matoh three cheers were given for the winner of the modal, Corporal Tristram, which he suitably acknowledged. The marker's butts were in charge of Private T. Pearson, who discharged his duties smartly, and made no mistakes. The medal will be presented at drill this evening. The following are the scores :—
