ROTORUA.
Valedictory.—OnThursdiy evening last the inhabitants of Kotorua entertained li, Graham, the popular hostess of Lake House Hotel, to a farewell dance. The dining-room was with a respectable gathering of both .Europeans and Maoris. Dancing commenced at .) p. in. and was kept up with unflagging spirit till 3 a.in. on Friday morning. During the evening l)r. (.binders in a neat speech expressed thu universal regret which all Jell at the approaching departure of "/''i!'' ham who has long been identihed with the rise and progress of Rotorun. Ho wished Mrs Graham every suce.'.-s in her new home at Wairakei. Mr H. M. Donald, on behalf of Mrs Graham made a smtablo reply, '.hanking the company for their kind pationage and hearty good wi-hes The room was tastefully decorated with evergreens and the following appropriate motto, 44 Farewell, but not for uver.' Miss Chup* man Messrs Fortune and Munro kindly supplied the music. The gathering was altogether one of the pleasantest that has i.i.ken place hero for some time. Mr M. Donald made an efficient M.C. Mr Mcllae of the Palace Hotel enters into possession of Lake House to-day, so that both establishments will be under his supervision, Mr King still remaining on at Lake House. PuOGliKSSlvi!.—Mr Griffiths' new store is just about (inished, and -vill be opened in a few days. Messrs Gorlett and Bell have made a very nice job. When opened it will prove an additional improvement to the business appoarance of tho town. Mr John Hall is giving it the artist'c finish. Visi roius. —A number of distinguished visitors arrived from Taupo yesterday. The par'.'y consists of Lord and Lady Delamere, L»/ly Morcton, and the Hon. S. Cholmondel". Professor Dickinson paid this district a visit last week. Ile came here at tho request of the Government and Union Steamship Company. He goes Home on a lecturing tour and then returns to Australia for the same purpose, which is made in view ot the opening of the Duuedin Exhibition. Messrs Greaham and Rigg, of Tc Awainutu, are both here on a visit, and are much pleased with their trip. Thev have been to Taupo an.l Wairakei, besides visiting all tho sights around here. They nnght be induced to Rive your readers a description of their trip, which would no doubt prove interesting, not omitting to mention the cat at Te Kouti helping itself freoly to the sauBages, although hung up in a safe place on the branch of a. largo tree. Chakuks.—The half-way hou*e at Atianiuri has changed hands, Mr Crovvther having bought out Mr Downey.
