New Moanatairi, buyers, 2s Od ; Alburnia, buyers, 2s 8d ; Mr J. H. Upton was re-elected chairman of the Board of Education to-day. In returning thanks he said that during the year the teaching staff had b ■ l put in proper order. When they commenced the year they had in their employ 70 teachers more than prescribed by the standard regulations. These had been got rid of, and though in April last year they had 07 unclassified teachers, now they had only 10. The result of these reductions was they had gone to credit to the extent of £1000. Mr Upton regretted that tiie proposal for allocation of scholarships to country schools had not been agreed to, but hoped to sec such a measure become law. He dissented from Hi ■ suggestion to abolish Boards of and establish a central department in Wellington.
