The general has telegraphed a manifesto (toting that he will never consent to be judged by a Senate blinded by personal passions, but will wait in a free country till the general elections have made the Republic habitable for honest, free, and honourable men. Several of his principal followers accuse him of cowardice. The trial of those charged with complicity in the acts of the Patriotic League commenced to-day, when M. Naquot, member of the Senate, and IM. M. Lanquerre, Tnrnet, Dor iMlede (president of the Patriotic League), the leader* of the League, were called upon t-i answer chtrges made against tlieui. Tlie Chamber was crowded, an 1 there was a great sensation when the charges were read. Precautions wi-ro taken bv the military authorities to prevent disorder during the proceedings.
