Raglan Races

The annual and popular race meeting, under the patronage of the Raglan Jockey Club, took place on Friday, March 22nd, on the grounds of the Club opposite the township. The weather was fine throughout the day and a very large concourse of people assembled from all parts of the Raglan and Waikato districts. The arrangements were carried out in a most satisfactory manner by the committee, viz., Mr Sutton, judge; Mr Somerset, secretary ; Messrs Mathias, (Jarr and Burgess, handicappeis ; Mr T. Wilson, starter ; Mr Watts, clerk of scales ; Mr R. Barton, clerk of course. The following are the results :— Handicap Huudle Rack. 2 miles Mr J. Gale's Maid of the Mist, lOst. ... 1 Mr N. King's Bob .Sawyer, Ost 71b. ... 2 Mr Kingi's Awaßuku, Ost. 91b. ... 3 A capital race, all the horses jumping well. Bob Sawyer ran a good race, but condition told at the finish. Maiden Plate. King's Bob Sawyer 3 The annual race ball was held in the large hall of Powell's Buildings, and waa attended by a large number of people. Mr Jerome acted as M.C. on the occasion and Mr Sutton provided the viands, etc. The dancing continued until nn early hour.
