COMPENSATION COURT, HAMILTON

WunXEsnAY.— (Before Captain Jackson, R. M.,and Messrs Seddon and Oliesseman, Assessors.) Bank of Nkw Zkaland v. tub Minister kor Public Wouks, and tiik New Zbalasij Loan and Mkucantim; Auknuy v. Samk. —Mr Th-o. Cooper appeared For the phiutiffs and Mr Buddie for respondents. Mr Cooper said both cases were identical, and the parties being agreed, they were taken as one and the first named case was withdrawn.—Mr Cooper said the claim was not a large one, only £110 for compensation for a block of land of seven acres in Block No. 2, Motumaoho at Mnrrinsville, taken under the Public Works Act for the purpose of a station on the. Rotorua railway. The land wns held by the Bank and the Loan and Mercantile Agency as tenants in common. He would now only call evidence from Mr Hume as to the value of the land and then ask for an adjournment to Morrinsville, to continue the enquiry there. The plaintiffs only asked for a fair value for the land, and nothing excessive. He then went into the particulars of the case and the grounds upon which the claim was based.— James Hume, manager of the Bank of New Zealand, Hamilton, sworn, deposed that in his opinion the land in question was worth £12 per acre, as it was advantageously situated, and laid down in grass.— By Mr Buddie: He placed that value on the land because it adjoined the Morrinsville station and was in the centre of a very largo district. The Court then adjourned till 4 p.m. at Morrinsville.
