TERRIBLE MURDER BY A NEGRESS.
A terriule story of murder by a negress conies from Kansas. Like all her race, this old negress was very superstitious, and imagined that she had been bewitched. She suspected that the elder daughter of her master, a girl of sixteen, had put the spell upon her, and she accused the girl of it. The latter, thinkonly of having a litllc fnu at the ignorant old woman's, expense, told her it was true, and that only death would break the spell. One evening a few days ago the entire family were absent from home with the exception of the old woman and the girl. The negress then took the girl tied her hand and foot, stripped off all her clothing, and beat her unmercifully. She smeared the girl with paint, and tied her in the large oldfashioned fireplace and built a fire about her, and then fled. A neighbour happened to call in and rescued the girl from the ilamcs, but she was so badly injured that she died during the night. The country la being hunted for the »igr»3n, but »tis has wonped tlins far.
