LATEST AUCKLAND NEWS.
(BY TELEGRAPH—OWN COHItICSPONDENT.) Auckland, Friday. Mu G, M. Reed, who leaves for Melbourne next week to take the editorship of a new evening paper there, is to be presented with an illuminated address. Under Bros.' stables, at Devonport, were destroyed by fire this morning, but the horses were rescued. The drapers have agreed to observe next Thursday as a general holiday and inaugurate an annual picnic. Mr William Eustace Martin, solicitor, a very old identity, has died at the ago of 'JO. Already about 200 natives have assembled for the meeting at Waitangi, and are gathering from all parts. Toe Permanent Artillery do not return from Opotiki till next week. The Board of Education elections were as follows :-Goldie, 13"); L'ike, 130 ; L-.u----nox, 118; Thomas, 100; Blades, 25. The first three were elected. The Government have received Professor Austin's report on refractory ores, but he makes no suggestions.
