The Harvest.—Threshing has been going on all last week, and is still unfinished at Whfltiwh.itihoe, Mr Short having tho contract with his large steam thrashing machine. Both crops of wheat and oats are turning out above the average. Tim natives are providing the coal used in driving the machine, which they procured from Hauturu where there is any quantity to be obtained, it answers well, and no doubt coal of an excellent quality abounds there.

Death of a Chimj of Tawhiao'h.— A son of Tawhiao's died there last week, aged 11 years ; the youngster had been ailing for some time past. The tangi was not an extensive one ; tho boy was buried on Saturday last. Thk Tk Kooti Akkaik. —The To Kooti and settlers of Poverty Bay difficulty did not causo much excitement amongst the King natives. Had To Kooti been shot, it would not have troubled then, one wit. A great many wero of opinion Te Kooti was trying it on with the Government to make some money out of them beforo he would return to Waikato. They cannot understand why so much concern should be shown for him, when Winiata who only killed one man was hanged, and To Kooti who killed wholesale is made a Government pet. There is little doubt that outsido of the cost of tlio a (fair, great damage has been done to the ooiony, and particularly to Mr Rees' proposed settlements which he is trying to get established in England. If he was only a member of the House now, wouldn't ho give it to the Atkinson Ministry hot, when he returns ? There is the fact that the Government allowed Te Kooti to proceed, and when tho cause of al! the tj-ouble and expense the colony has been put to, they should be made to foot the bill.
