Paterangi v. Taupiri.

TilK first match between the above clubs was played in Hamilton on Saturday, and was won by the Taupiri club by I'J runs en the first innings. It will bo remembered that the Paterangi (Jlub are the winners of tho Association Gup. This defeat will not effect their position, as the Taupiri Club were unable to take part in the Cup matches. The pitch played very badly, set oral of the players receiving nasty knocks, in fact one player had his face cut open. If something is not dono soon to .Sydney .Square, cricketers will have to play at (Jliaupo or Ngaruawahia. Paterangi went in (ir-t, but could make very few runs oil Cox's b-ovl-ng. He t«ok seven wichuts in this innings. Alter lunch at tin Waikato Hotel, where host Leijiiesne had a splendid spread, Taupiri went in and totalled .">. Hill and Stewart practically tiring out the Paterangi bowlers, though Crookes did good work capturing wickets. Germann, of Paterangi, distinguished himself at mid wickets, receiving much applause for his fielding. At half past four Paterangi went in again, but it was quite evident that they had lost heart, except Graham, who went in first and was the last out. Paterangi made 48, the innings closing at 10 minutes to (>. There was one objectionable feature in the match, and that was the protests made by one or two of the Paterangi team to the umpire's decision. Now, we think that it is high time that ungoutlemanly conduct of this kind was stopped, and should it occur again we will publish the names of offenders. We would advise the Association to disqualify members who misbehave from playing. Each team was accompanied by friends, Paterangi having the honour of several of their lady friends, who watched the game with keen interest. Wo understand that host L.ivell had a supper ready for the Taupiri players for lowering the colours of the champion Waikato club.
